It has been raining for 2 days now and I didn't want to go another day without running, so I decided to go to the gym and run on the treadmill. I used to think that I ran faster on the treadmill, but that is not the case. Since I have been tracking my progress, I realized that running 7.0 on the treadmill is over 8 minutes miles. So I increased my pace to 7.5 which is only 8 minute miles and it felt difficult!!!! I did add in some surges which made me feel like less of a loser, but oh well.
Since I was at the gym, I also did some cross training (back, chest, and abs) and did a cool down walk on the treadmill (fun). I was, however, able to read my Runner's World while cooling down and it had some helpful hints for training for a marathon. Apparently, if you run more intense workouts during the week, you don't have to run the dreaded 20+ mile long run. Most runners on the plan don't run more than 16 miles at their peak and have shaved lots of time off their 26.2. I have no point of reference, but I would LOVE not having the dreaded 20 mile run hanging over my head.
